Each one of us is passionate about the issues surrounding developmental disabilities and has a vested interest in solving our own individual problems. No one doubts that we care deeply, whether we are an individual with disabilities, a self-advocate, a family member, a professional or a provider.
When we fight the battle alone, we are limited to our own abilities, time, money and effort and we see now that none of us have the impact separately that we do when we join forces. Where singular efforts fall short, collaboration can take ideas farther, faster — creating a more powerful positive outcome. Together we can learn skills, develop relationships and strategies, and then engage others to take action.
At the 2012 Governor’s Conference on Developmental Disabilities this April 25-26 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Norman, our theme is “Making Connections: Finding Solutions Together.” At this conference our goal is to combine passion and purpose, exploring best practices and giving all of us access to timely, accurate and high quality information regarding developmental disabilities. “By Making Connections: Finding Solutions Together” we can harness the power of collaboration and create lasting and positive change.
